Forestry Commission: The Women’s Outdoor Leadership Project

Our approach is ‘learning by doing’ using woodlands and forests as our classroom.

On completion of the project participants will receive: Sport Leader Level 3 Certificate Training: Day Walk Leaders &/or o Basic Expedition Leadership (BEL); Outdoor Emergency 1st Aid Certificate; John Muir Discovery Award. The project consists of 150 hrs training towards the Level 3 Certificate in Day Walk Leaders or Basic Expedition Leadership. On completion of the project, women will be supported to complete their consolidation and assessment element of the award by utilising the skills learnt on the BEL to benefit the local community. Participants are fully supported throughout the project to ensure they are confident in running local community projects in their local woodlands and forests. 

Who can apply: 10 Participants; Women from a variety of backgrounds, aged 18 yrs or over who can utilise their training to benefit their local community via self led woodland activities.
Time Scale: February 2013 – October 2013 (dates tbc with group). 18 sessions: 10am – 5pm – to include 2 overnight camping expeditions Plus 2 days 1st Aid Training.
Cost: The BEL & 1st Aid Course are FREE!. You will be required to purchase your own walking boots and leaders pack. Participants will contribute a small fee for camping and transport. Self-catering for expeditions and day sessions
