Joining The Dots From Savile To Rochdale (End Violence Against Women EVAW)

November 13, 2012

EVAW and other women’s groups have called upon George Entwistle, new Director General of the BBC, to ensure that inquiries into Jimmy Savile’s widespread abuse of girls over decades look at a culture of sexism and sexual harassment at the BBC which allowed Savile to abuse with impunity. We also urged that the inquiry into Newsnight’s decision to drop the story looks at possible prejudice about violence against women and girls in its editorial decision-making. EVAW and members are waiting for imminent reports from the Office of the Children’s Commissioner (http://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/info/csegg1) and the Home Affairs Committee (http://digbig.com/5bgrcr) on sexual exploitation following scandals in Rochdale and other British towns showing that the scale and nature of abuse in the Savile case are still happening today.
