Domestic abuse affects all of us. It is all round us. We all know someone who has experienced domestic abuse. And yet it is often hidden from our eyes. Domestic abuse is not an equal fight between two people, nor is it simply about incidents of physical violence.  As family, friends or service providers we may become aware of an incident of violence but the story of fear and coercion that lies behind it is often concealed.

This seminar seeks to reveal the stories that lie behind a presenting incident of violence and highlight the importance of understanding the whole picture of abuse for safe and effective interventions.

Speakers: Dr Sandra Ferguson ( Consultant Clinical Psychologist, NHS Lothian), Mridul Wadhwa (Shakti Women’s Aid), Dr Emma Williamson (University of Bristol), Detective Inspector Craig Willison (Domestic Abuse Task Force, Strathclyde Police).  Cost: £15.
