NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde: Forced Marriage Policy

September 10, 2012

Source: NHS GG&C Health Inequalities

NHSGGC has recently introduced a Forced Marriage Policy to support our staff to identify and respond to patients who may be victims of forced marriage. The Policy applies to all employees of NHSGGC as victims may come to our attention anywhere in the service. The Policy urges staff to be aware that contact with a health worker may be the one chance for a person who is at risk of being forced to marry or is already in a forced marriage to get help and protection. The Policy explains the law on forced marriage in Scotland, which patients are most likely to be at risk and which services they are most likely to present to. It also contains guidance to assist staff to be alert for the signs of forced marriage and what action to take when they see them.
