Screen Debate: ‘THE HEALING YEARS’

August 15, 2012

5.45 pm – 8.15 pm, Tuesday 18th September, at Glasgow Film Theatre

The Women’s Support Project and Glasgow Film Theatre present the first Glasgow screening of THE HEALING YEARS

In the 1980’s and 90’s incest and abuse within the family was the main focus of public debate on child sexual abuse, often led by newly established ‘Incest Survivor’ groups, whereas current discussion is increasingly focused on grooming abuse and exploitation by online predators.

This documentary from BIG VOICES productions in the USA uses the poignant stories of women adult survivors of child abuse to highlight the impact of incest. We hear from the former Miss America, Marilyn Van Derbur, from Janice Mirikitani, President of Glide memorial Church, San Francisco and from Barbara Hamilton, a 79-year old survivor who ends three
generations of incest in her family.

The Healing Years is an acclaimed education and training resource on child sexual abuse, which has been endorsed by individuals and organisations active in work against sexual abuse.

The screening will be followed by a panel and audience discussion
