Scottish Women’s Aid 35th Anniversary Events

August 15, 2011

Scottish Women's Aid logoThis year is the 35th anniversary of SWA and to mark this milestone we are organising a variety of events in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The anniversary events will place the work of SWA in its historic, social and cultural context, highlighting connections with other campaigns and other struggles for social justice.

The events will look back over the history of SWA, celebrating its achievements as well as looking to the challenges that lie ahead.

Key highlights in the anniversary calendar include:

  • 3 seminars (further information will be available on our new training calendar) with influential researchers and activists addressing major developments in our understanding of the issue of gender based violence over the past 35 years.
  • Hosting an open forum with the cast and creatives of M house in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute.  M house received the Gender Equality prize from the Political Club of Women 50/50 and has also received a nomination from Amnesty International for the Freedom of Expression Award
  • Mini film festival at the Filmhouse, Edinburgh (22nd & 23rd October 2011). A selection of challenging, inspiring, thought provoking and funny feature films and documentaries.  Linked to these will be an interactive workshop for children and young people.
  • A ceilidh (date tbc)
  • An exhibition of photographs and memorabilia held at Glasgow Women’s Library (November 26th – December 10th)
