Persian Cinema: Offside

July 6, 2011

From ST MUNGO MUSEUM OF RELIGIOUS LIFE AND ART:

[Glasgow] Thursday 21 July, 6pm.

Jafar Pahini is an award winning Iranian film maker and his films are noted for their humanitarian themes.  The night will include an introduction to Pahini’s work and a showing of the acclaimed ‘Offside’.  The film is about a group of Iranian girls who disguise themselves as boys in an attempt to watch a football game at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.  As women are not allowed to enter stadiums in Iran, the girls are arrested.  Pahini himself has previously been arrested in Iran for the films he makes and is currently barred from leaving Iran.  Places are limited so please book in advance.
