About us:

Stirling and District Women’s Aid aims to offer support, information and temporary accommodation for women and their children who have been physically, emotionally or sexually abused by a partner or former partner. We provide refuge, information and support services for women, children and young people in the Stirlingshire area who are victims of domestic abuse. We work closely with a range of statutory and voluntary sector organisations.

 The organisation is changing from a collective to a hierarchical management structure and is becoming a company limited by guarantee; therefore we are looking for diverse, motivated and enthusiastic women who are committed to our vision to join our new board of directors / trustees for the organisation. Five women are already active on the board.

The role:

The board sets the strategic direction of the organisation and will ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met and best practice is promoted. As a board member, you will be required to contribute to the governance of the organisation including attending monthly board meetings and the AGM. You may be asked to undertake other duties such as representing the organisation at external events or in the media; or assisting with fundraising, network or influencing work. In return you will receive all reasonable expenses, a comprehensive training and support programme and the knowledge that you have helped to make some women, children and young people in Stirlingshire a little bit safer and more secure.

Stirling and District Women’s Aid welcomes applications from women who have previously utilised women’s aid services or who have been subject to domestic abuse. We also welcome applications from women from all sectors of the community. Under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 only women are eligible to apply.

We are particularly interested in women with a financial management background, and experience with change management.
