100th anniversary of International Women’s Day

February 22, 2011

From Fawcett:

A coalition of charities has this year come together to ensure the 100th anniversary of this important day, which falls on 8th March, doesn’t go by unnoticed. Alongside Oxfam’s global ambassador Annie Lennox OBE, the EQUALS coalition comprises ActionAid, Amnesty International, Care International UK, The Fawcett Society, Oxfam, Plan International, Save the Children, The White Ribbon Alliance For Safe Motherhood, Women’s Aid and Women for Women International. It is supported by an evolving partnership of organisations, including 1Goal, Dance4Life, Merlin, Mumsnet, Object, One World Action, UKFeminista, VSO, WomanKind and Women for Refugee Women, and is collaborating with arts partners such as Birds Eye View, Brightwide, Britdoc/Good Screenings, Funny Women and the Southbank Centre.

Together, we are determined to ensure that the centenary is a catalyst for celebration and positive change.

Through events, public outreach, multimedia initiatives, arts partnerships and more, the EQUALS coalition hope to use the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day as a springboard for engaging a new generation to take action on women’s equality – locally and hopefully globally. Our ambition is to bring women’s equality issues into the mainstream once again.
