Symposium On Equal Marriage

November 10, 2010

[Edinburgh] 2nd December, 10am – 4.30pm, Macdonald Holyrood Hotel, 81 Holyrood Rd, Edinburgh.

As the law stands, same sex couples in the UK can enter into civil partnerships, but marriage is not yet an option. The law also interferes with both marriage and civil partnership rights of transgender people. This event will investigate the perceived barriers to equal marriage and seek to produce a roadmap for legislators as to how to make equal marriage a reality, suggest areas for further consideration and make recommendations for moving forward. This event will include presentations, panel and group discussions. Speakers/panellists will include Prof John Curtice, Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Patrick Harvie MSP, Prof Kenneth McK Norrie, Rev Sharon Ferguson (Lesbian & Gay Christian Movement), and representatives of LGBT groups working for equal marriage in Scotland.

Free event – must be booked by 19th November using the booking form or by phoning Steven Smyth 0141 228 5961 or email scotlandcommunication@equalityhumanrights.com Booking form available here (you can print it out, or save it and edit it, and post it or email it to the addresses on the form):  Tea, coffee and lunch will be provided
