GWL moves into their new home / Auction of Pleasures

September 14, 2010

We are pleased to tell you that we are now open for business in our new home at the Mitchell Library – the new address is below. We have had to move here earlier than we would have liked as the Parnie Street premises were given over to WASPS by the City Council.  This means that we have not started any refurbishment / building works here yet as we have still to raise all the required funding.  The good news is that we are doing so very well on that front, with over half a million pounds now pledged! The not-so-good-news is that the premises are currently far from ideal – too small, no toilet / washing facilities and not fully accessible. The need for the refurbishment grows ever more urgent…

…and on that subject, there are still a small number of seats left for our Auction of Pleasures – a fundraising dinner and auction to raise money towards the building fund. Men and women welcome! ‘The List’ magazine features this in its latest edition (and currently online) and says that the Auction of Pleasures – ‘totally wins our Best Ever Charity Fundraiser Award’. It was also covered in the Herald last week, promoted by writers Louise Welsh and Zoe Strachan.

Please do take a moment to browse what is on offer – there is something for everyone and for every pocket – you won’t be disappointed. Some details are at http://www.womenslibrary.org.uk/261/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Auction-Brochure2.pdf but more things are still being donated and added! From the services of a qualified Genealogist to being knitted a bespoke vintage item from a selection of patterns in our archives, artworks galore, culinary delights and even your own mini women’s library of signed books. And not to mention Simon Le Bons Yacht!

With entertainment, including the sublime Terry Nealson, this promises to be a really fun, different, exciting night out and the hottest ticket in town – St Andrews in the Square, Friday 17th September, 7-11pm. And for such a good cause – don’t miss it!
